In the Middle of things

We fear getting to the edge,
So we would rather die with our knowledge,
We fear getting to the periphery,
So we stop at just good and do not proceed to the very.

That if we voice our opinions, others would wonder why we are so bold,
And if we keep quiet, they would wonder why we are so cold,
And so we stay in the middle of things,
We stand in the middle of thighs,
We are not on the left,
And we fear being so right.

We do not support openly,
We are not NASA and we are not Jubilee,
We stand in the middle,
Because we fear taking sides and becoming brittle,
We play safe,
Because we are not brave.

We are contented being in the middle,
We escape being downgraded as so little,
And it makes us not big enough to stand out in the crowd,
We camouflage inside the group that is not so loud,
We fear being judged.
