The Sebit Convention

I beg all of us to calm down,
I know you youths are very angry,
But we cannot have a dialogue under this condition,
The elders have listened to your concerns,
We beg you to put a stop to all these unrests and chaos.

We cannot solve our problems by throwing stones and undressing our trees,
Look around, all our beautiful trees are now naked,
They have been stripped of their branches,
Are we inviting the wrath of nature?
Do we want nature to curse us?
If you stop all these noise and be calm, we can understand each other.

We beg you give us some time to convene another council’s meeting,
We shall look into your demands and see what is doable and what is not doable,
You know Chang’aa brewers and sellers are doing so to support their families,
That is their source of income and we cannot just decide, out of the blues, that we ban the business,
We need time to deliberate on this matter and come up with a fair solution to our alcoholism problem.

As for Dickson Onyango Obiero, the youth who was sex-communicated from this village a few weeks ago,
All I can say is that we have rules to follow,
The council of elders’ decisions are guided by some laws,
These laws were passed to us by our forefathers,
But that does not mean that there is nothing we can do about it,
We shall also discuss it in the council’s meeting and then we shall duly inform you of the outcome of our discussion.
You also demanded that Chief Milton Ojuok Obila should release Abigael to go back to her husband,
That is a very sensitive issue and we need a slot of soberness while dealing with it,
We beg you, Rabuor Youths, to be patient as we deliberate on this matter,
The right honorable Chief Milton is here and has heard your complaints,
We shall discourse with him and come up with an amicable solution,
All we ask for is time,
If you will allow us, let us give you our response to these demands next week on Friday.
