In this town,
We have stuck tooth picks in our mouths for meats we have
not eaten,
We have slept with women way beyond our class after seducing
them with cars which are not ours,
We have taken them to homes we never own,
We have learnt to fake it in this town,
This town has forced us to become actors in scenes we never
asked for.
In this town,
We have spent cold nights in mean, stuffy cells for crimes
we have not committed,
We have paid for glasses we never broke and beers we never
ordered,
We have learnt to carry other people’s crosses in this town,
This town has forced us to play along in games we never
initiated.
In this town,
We are under-paid for jobs we are over-qualified for,
We have done jobs we never studied for,
We have learnt to move with the wind in this town,
This town has made us Jack of all trades.
In this town,
We have clinched business deals we are unable to execute,
But somehow we have managed to get the work going,
We have won tenders we never applied for,
We have received money we never worked for in this town,
This town has taught us to put a brave face.
In this town,
We have spent money we do not have,
We have made promises we cannot fulfill,
We have worn suits we have not paid for,
We have spent nights in hotels we cannot afford in this
town,
This town has opened for us her legs and shown
us infinite posiibilties(image credits.Nairobi city at night courtesy of nairobibusinessmonthly.com)
